Zedex

About 25 years ago I created this software that would network computers in schools. Honestly, it is no longer relevant, as schools can now use WiFi routers, USB drives, or cloud servers to organize schools. Most of the instructions I had for its installation would no longer work on today's computers. It is no longer supported.

But you still will be able to download the zedex program, zedex031004.zip, at the bottom of this page.

Here's how it worked:

Basically you setup one computer as a server, and on that server you create folders, one of which is called "logout". These folders will be the student folders. Sharing must be turned on, and each folder must be shared. This computer name must be called "zedex" as the zedex program will look to map to that computer based on its name, zedex. If you use a Win98 computer you will be able to give each folder a password. The logout folder must have a password of "logout". You can have a Linux computer act as the server if you enabler Samba networking, but it is complicated and doesn't always work depending on the Linux version.

You install the program, Zedex, on each workstation that students would use, and they would be able to login to their folder. Zedex maps their folder to the "Z" drive. You can also map to the "X" drive. Hence the name "Zedex".

Mac users could use the Apple script, Zedex Login.scpt.sit, that I have included below as well. I doubt it still works on current versions of OS.
